While dozens of kids and adults got a great bike, cheap, folks at the Madison Bike Swap raised over $900 for PeaceWorks projects in Nicaragua.
Every year a group of local bike enthusiasts, led by Lisa Moro, collect gently used bikes from people in Madison and surrounding New Jersey communities. This year, folks donated around 100 bikes!
The team fixed up the bikes and then on Sunday May 13th, the bikes went on sale for ten bucks a pop. In the end, somebody got a little more space in their garage while about 90 other people got a good, used bike. Better yet, the proceeds from the Swap are delivered to organizations working in poor communities in Nicaragua. This year the Swap raised over $900!
Also, any bikes not picked up in the sale are sent down on one of PeaceWorks bi-yearly humanitarian aid shipments to Nicaragua.
Thank you to everyone who donated a bike, bought a bike…and especially Lisa and the entire Bike Swap crew!
