Thanks to everyone who came out to enjoy some fine, home-cooked BBQ, spend time among friends and build solidarity with the people of Nicaragua.
Our Nica partners are going through a rough time with unexpected political unrest – so the $2300 we raised is a true hand of friendship in the PeaceWorks spirit of people to people, pueblo a pueblo.
In fact, since the violence broke out in April, we’ve been able to raise and have already sent down $23,000 in special emergency funds to help our partners keep programs going through tough times — for street kids, communities without potable water and women and families trying to get back on the feet after leaving an abusive situation.
$23,000 is not pocket change — it is beautiful symbol of love and respect from a small, dedicated community of people up here to a small, dedicated community of peace activists down there. Muchisimas gracias, amigos.
