Nancy Rabke, ¡Presente!

We were saddened that longtime PeaceWorks member Nancy Rabke passed away on November 30th at the age of 80. She will be greatly missed by so many people, in the U.S. and Nicaragua.

Many remember Nancy from our delegation to Nicaragua in January 2015. She glided up mountains to remote villages, accompanied us into the back alley slums of Managua’s Eastern Market and headed out on a small boat through mangrove estuaries to see the protection of endangered sea turtles. Nancy carried a passion for sea turtles from her home on Cape Cod were she was actively involved in conservation.

At the Inhijambia Program for Street Kids, Nancy met girls whose lives were once defined by violence and poverty, going to school and learning job-ready skills like sewing. So, when she returned to Cape Cod, Nancy got her friends at the Harwich Quilting Bank to donate large quantities of fabric and four sewing machines that we later sent down on one of our mutual aid shipments to Nicaragua.

Here’s a beautiful obituary telling you more about the amazing life of our dear friend Nancy Rabke.

A celebration of Nancy’s life will be held on the Cape in the spring at the Chapel in The Pines. Below are a few photos of Nancy on our January 2016 Delegation to Nicaragua.
