The PeaceWorks 2020 delegation will start in Northern Nicaragua, visiting several rural communities struggling to adapt to the harsh effects of climate change. The delegation will be accompanied by the leaders of FEDICAMP which works to train and equip local farmers with sustainable water and farming projects.
The delegation will head on to visit the El Porvenir Coffee Co-op which is nestled between two volcanoes and then take a boat through mangroves to the Juan Venado Nature Reserve to help release baby sea turtles to the Pacific Ocean. The delegation will then head back to Managua to accompany the Inhijambia Program for Street Kids to the Eastern Market where so many children work as laborers and have few opportunities to play or go to school.
Before ending the delegation with a little R&R in the magnificently beautiful town of Granada, the delegation will visit the Mariposa Spanish School’s “Chispas de Vida” program for kids with disabilities. They’ll also visit the new Axayacatl Center for women fleeting domestic violence, as well as visit some of Axayacatl’s programs in local rural villages.
