Come on our January 2018 Delegation to Nicaragua. You’ll hike to mountain villages to see sustainable farming and water conservation projects. By boat you’ll glide through mangrove forests to participate in sea turtle conservation. You’ll visit a community nestled between volcanos and see how they produce organic coffee. From city slums to rural cooperatives, you’ll be greeted with friendly faces and the open arms of our partners who are working to overcome extreme poverty, environmental degradation and economic exploitation – everyday Nicaraguans working to build peace.
Our day trips often begin where the paved road ends. With PeaceWorks, you’ll see the real Nicaragua!
People to people, pueblo a pueblo. While enjoying simple, but pleasant accommodations & good food, you’ll be part of a small team meeting with our project partners — experts in rural development, wildlife conservation and human rights. In translated conversations you’ll speak to Nicaraguan families and project beneficiaries who’ll invite you into their homes and places of work. You’ll ask questions, observe, and learn while helping PeaceWorks think about priorities and future work. Our delegation is the foundation of our solidarity building work– people to people, pueblo a pueblo.

Where will you go? Here are a few of the places and partner organizations we plan to visit:
We make a lot of friends along the way.
Managua – Inhijambia: Learn about the daily realities for Managua’s street children. Meet activists providing housing and counseling services for girls vulnerable to prostitution and drug use.
Masaya – Axyacatl Women’s Collective– Meet local women’s rights activists working with abused woman. See how the collective provides counseling, job training, micro-loans and income through its two sewing cooperatives.
Northern Nicaragua – FEDICAMP Learn how climate change is contributing to poverty in rural Nicaragua. Visit reforestation, water conservation, and organic gardening projects in areas threatened by desertification.
El Porvenir Coffee Co-op Visit the forty-three families living high atop a volcanic mountain range who plant, pick, and process organic coffee.
Beauty and Culture A visit to Nicaragua would not be complete without visiting the smoldering Masaya volcano, a breathtaking ecological reserve, the historic old city of Grenada, a Pacific ocean, beach — and so much more!

Dates: 13 days in mid-January (exact dates TBD)
Cost: Approximately $1750/person (including air). *We encourage participants to raise additional funds to donate to our Nicaraguan partner projects.

Lodging — Our base for part of the trip is Masaya, a city of 80,000 people, 20 miles south of Managua. We will also stay in more rural community settings, as well as hotels in Esteli, Leon, or Somoto, depending on our itinerary.
